Legislature Approves Education and Healthcare Bills

The Missouri General Assembly is about halfway through the final week of the 2016 legislative session, which will come to a close this Friday. More than 30 bills have been passed this week and sent to the Governor for his approval or veto.
The approved bills include provisions to increase asset limits for Medicaid patients, require CPR and civics education in schools, and offer financial incentives to draw conventions to Missouri. The legislature also approved legislation broadening access to a drug that blocks the effects of opioid overdoses. Another healthcare bill creates a council on palliative care, allows the department of insurance to review health insurance rates, and requires health plans to cover medication synchronization services. This provision is designed to help patients on multiple drugs align their medication schedules so they can fill their prescriptions at one time.
There are still many major issues awaiting votes in the final days of session, including ethics reform, transportation funding, paycheck protection, and municipal court reform.
